" I escaped Vietnam by boat to Philippines in 1981. Although more than 30 years passed, I still remember the trip well. I have created few paintings about the trip since, and here is a recent painting which was completed in 2012.
Along the way many obstacles hinder the passage of the boat. Yet, once the storm is averted, life appears, and land is in sight. Freedom is by no means free. Many struggles and consequences were met in the attainment of freedom. One has to fight for freedom, as well as protect it. The artwork is about Courage, Caring, Hope, Faith and the Will to overcome everything for Freedom.
Painting “Freedom Journey” is a mix medium on wood, 12 x 16 inches. Thick oil paint was manipulated for texture, glazed with thin layers of colored paint, and then applying gold leaf, cracking and aging vanishes. "
